Preparing for Surgery

 

Getting Ready:

Here is some information to help you prepare:

  • Check with your insurance company; understand your benefits, deductibles, out of pocket costs, etc. Keep in mind that you will be responsible for surgeon / assistant surgeon, facility and anesthesia charges. Our office will contact your insurance company to preauthorize if required.
  • See your primary care physician, or if under the care of a specialist, Cardiologist, Pulmonologist, make sure you have their clearance and are physically fit for surgery.
  • Discontinue NSAIDS 5 to 7 days prior to surgery
  • Fast for at least 8 hours prior to surgery start time
  • Get any prescriptions filled prior to surgery
  • Have someone to drive you to and from surgery
  • Follow discharge instructions
  • Ice and elevate the operated extremity
  • IMPORTANT: If a postoperative emergency develops, call 9-1-1, or go to the nearest emergency room.
